OUR 2026 INSTRUCTOR
Ed.M. Harvard Graduate School of Education
B.A. Geography at Clark University – Magna Cum Laude
Mr. Forrest is passionate about engaging students and tapping into their natural curiosity. Harvard Professor Victor Pereira is enthusiastic in recommending Mr. Forrest for the way in which he connects with students and in having high expectations of them. Viking Adventures is for the exceptional student who strives to uncover the truth about a time that is often misrepresented. This also calls for an exceptional teacher; someone who brings together science, history and culture in a hands-on way!
GUEST PRESENTER
Project Manager at Arms & Armor
Craig oversees the creation of accurate replicas of Viking Age weapons based on archeological finds. He will join us via a live link from his workshop to dispel myths and tell it like it really is. Camper forensic sleuths will prepare their best questions for what is sure to be an exciting glimpse into all things Viking!
Based on a program developed and tested by
Sc.D. Electrical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
S.M. Electric Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
S.B. Electrical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
William is the manager of Hurstwic, LLC, a Massachusetts-based firm that scientifically researches the Vikings, with a focus on their combat method, but with an interest in all things Viking. A special exhibit based on Hurstwic’s research in Viking-age iron smelting is now on display at the National Museum of Iceland, and Hurstwic’s book detailing the results of their twenty-year research program was published last year. William created training programs for younger Vikings both for Hurstwic and at the Higgins Armory Museum in Worcester, MA.
Learn about physics (mechanics), mathematics, experimental procedures, analysis of experimental results, and reasoning and logic using the study of Viking weapons and combat. Fun for the young Viking in your family!
And this would not be complete without imagining life for a child growing up on a medieval farm. What values and beliefs were taught? What can we learn from archeological finds? What would it have been like to be a Viking? Their society, and their place in history is fascinating!
Oh, and that skull pictured at the top of this webpage? We will examine two different ones from a battle fought on what is now called the island of Gotland, Sweden. 3D printed ones, that is! “Edge on Science takes science off the page and puts it into the hands of your child.”
– Rondalyn Whitney, mom
“Edge on Science has been a wonderful learning experience for my grandson. He has enjoyed every minute of it (rocketry & bridge building).”
– Carole Bradley, grandmother
“Edge on Science went above and beyond to make sure our spring break program was fun and interesting. Well prepared!”
– Bernadette Kegan, program director, Acton-Boxborough School District
Your child will be taking a step back in time. Physics, mathematics, experimental procedure, analysis, reasoning and logic are packaged with fun activities, challenges and games. We inspire the pursuit of careers in applied science and engineering!
